Destination and place branding

As the sole copywriter and editor for Charlotte, North Carolina’s hospitality and tourism arm, the Charlotte Regional Visitors Authority, I was the main contributor to charlottesgotalot.com and was in charge of the city’s annual visitors guide, the Charlotte City Guide, and Happenings, a monthly publication distributed throughout the city. I also assigned out and edited stories from freelancers. From that experience, I gained deep knowledge of both Charlotte and tourism branding.

CHARLOTTE CITY GUIDE

I managed the production of the 2019 Charlotte City Guide. 350,000 copies of the magazine are distributed to museums, hotels, venues, and during events throughout the year. My role included shaping editorial coverage, working with freelancers, and scheduling photoshoots, among other duties.

HAPPENINGS

Happenings is a free monthly publication with a circulation of 25,000. The magazine covers arts and culture, culinary, sports, and events in the city. I oversaw the editorial direction and managed the publication’s freelancers.

Meetings and conventions

While at the CRVA, I worked with the Visit Charlotte sales team to create content for a number of convention RFPs, including the 2020 RNC, CIAA and NAACP. I was also the project lead while recreating Visit Charlotte’s Meeting Planners Guide. I worked with the Visit Charlotte team daily to develop collateral and sponsored campaigns that sold Charlotte as an ideal destination for meeting planners.
